Two different starting points

Why the horse cannot be designed afterwards
A horse is usually chosen first, and a life is then arranged around him with whatever land, boarding, herd and routines are available. Our own first horse taught us what that costs: the boarding system, his history and the life we wanted never became one whole.
Coexistence Design reverses that order. The horse's whole life — his history or his youth, the herd, the land, movement, rest, human contact and the daily rhythm — is designed as one structure, either before a young horse arrives or before a retired horse's transition begins. A relation not organised around use does not happen by removing riding; it has to be designed.
The foal service is the core: it addresses trust and shared life from the beginning, before riding and training become the organising logic. The retired-horse service has a different scope: it designs a transition from an established former role.
What we design for
The analysis works on the conditions a non-riding life is built from:
- The purpose the horse's life serves — and what it does not have to serve
- Land: layout, surfaces, shelter, and the movement the land actually produces
- The herd: composition, how it was formed, and what it gives each member
- Movement and rest: how much, of what kind, at whose initiative
- Feed and water as part of the daily rhythm, not as isolated events
- Human contact: its kind, frequency, boundaries and forms of shared activity
- The daily and seasonal rhythm that holds all of this together
- Long-term sustainability: your land, your time, your strength and support over years
What you provide
After your order and payment confirmation, we send you an intake questionnaire. From you, we ask for:
- Your horse's basic information and history — for a foal, what he has experienced so far; for a retired horse, the role and routine he is leaving
- Your land and facilities: photographs, layout, and how they are used now
- The herd your horse lives in or will join
- Your own situation: time, experience, and what you can sustainably provide
- What you want the shared life to contain — and what you want it not to contain
- The question you most want answered
- Your preferred language for the report
- If materials are missing, we ask for them — the design is not built on guesswork
How the work proceeds
Each service follows the private intake and delivery route described for it. Problem Advisory uses the secure Case Room for observations, targeted questions and private media; other services use their stated secure written route.
- You place the order through the cart and confirm it by bank transfer, using your payment reference
- After payment confirmation, the secure intake route for your purchased service becomes available
- You provide the baseline information and context requested for that service
- Where applicable, you record observations — including when a difficulty appears and when an expected difficulty does not appear
- You answer targeted follow-up questions and upload requested photographs or video privately when needed
- Equine Notion organises the case material and analyses it within the purchased scope, keeping reported facts, interpretation, uncertainty and contradictions separate
- The work is prepared individually and passes the applicable factual, scope and wording gates
- The final guide or report is delivered through the private route stated for the service
- Access and follow-up continue for the period included in the purchased service
What your report contains
Your design is written individually, from your materials. It is delivered as a private web report with 90 days of access. It contains:
- The facts of your situation, organised as they were received
- The conditions of the life you are building, examined one by one
- Connections between conditions and what you want the life to achieve
- What remains uncertain, stated as uncertain
- Elements of the current arrangement worth preserving
- Elements worth reconsidering, with the reasoning shown
- Practical options for the land, herd and daily rhythm
- Observation points for the period after the design is applied
Follow-up by email
After the initial report, you may submit further material by email or through your existing secure submission route:
- Photographs
- Video
- Observation records
- Changes you have made
- What has changed
- What has not changed
- Newly noticed conditions
We compare the additional material with your initial material and provide a written reanalysis within your contracted tier.
There are no telephone calls, video calls, online meetings, or visits. All follow-up takes place in writing.
What brief clarifications include
During the service period, brief questions needed to understand or apply our written observations may be answered by email. These clarifications do not normally use a formal reanalysis. They do not include a new analysis, a different issue, another horse, emergency support, or unlimited correspondence.
Brief clarifications are limited support included in your contracted service.

Illustrative example — not a client case
Observed: The photographs show a paddock of roughly rectangular shape with a shelter at one corner and a single gate. The young horse is turned out daily with one older companion. The owner describes the plan to add a second hay station in spring.
Conditions: The land allows movement along its edges but offers no reason to cross the middle. The companion is described as calm and reluctant to move much. Human contact currently consists of grooming in the stable, twice weekly.
Interpretation: At this age, the structure of the land — not the amount of land — will shape how he learns to move. One immobile companion plus edge-movement produces a predictable daily pattern. This is a condition to design with, not a fault to correct.

This service does not diagnose, treat, or respond to illness, injury, pain, or medical emergencies.
Reports provide perspectives, questions and practical areas for the owner to consider and carry out. They do not promise an outcome. For acute pain, suspected colic, inability to stand, severe bleeding or another emergency, this service is not designed to provide real-time instructions.

Questions owners ask before ordering
How do I know whether this fits my situation?
If you are building a life with a horse whose purpose is not riding or training — from the beginning, or after a working role ends — it fits. If your question concerns one recurring problem in an existing life, Problem Advisory is the closer service.
My horse is neither a foal nor retired. Does it still apply?
The two designs cover the transitions where the whole shape of a life is set. For other situations, write to us with your circumstances and we will tell you honestly whether one of our services fits.
I have more than one horse. How is that handled?
Each design concerns one horse and his situation, together with the herd around him. Two horses with two different situations are prepared as separate subjects.
What photos and videos should I prepare?
After payment confirmation we send the intake questions: the land from several angles, the places your horse spends time, the herd, and the routines as they actually happen.
What if my materials are not enough?
We ask for what is missing. The design is written from your actual situation, not from assumptions.
What is a private web report?
Your design is written as a private web page, individual to your order, delivered to you by email. It is not a template and it is not published anywhere.
How long can I access the report?
Each report includes 90 days of access from delivery.
Why bank transfer?
This is a small private practice and the service is operated manually. Payment is by bank transfer using your payment reference, and work begins after the payment is confirmed.
How is VAT handled?
VAT is calculated at checkout on the basis of your billing country, whether you order as a private individual or a business, and — for businesses — a validated EU VAT number where applicable.
What about emergencies?
This service is not designed for emergencies. Acute pain, suspected colic, a horse that cannot rise, serious bleeding or any urgent situation requires your veterinarian, immediately.
In which language is the report written?
English, Dutch, German or French — you choose your preferred language in the intake.
What happens after I place the order?
You receive the bank-transfer details and your payment reference. After the payment is confirmed, we send the intake questions. Once your materials are received, the design is prepared individually and delivered by email.

Coexistence Design suits owners who accept that a life not organised around use must be designed, not improvised — and who want the land, herd and daily rhythm treated as one structure. If any part of the scope is unclear, ask first; nothing starts automatically.
